Master Cleanse? Everything you need to know about the master cleanse and more
The master cleanse diet/detoxification program, aka lemon cleanse and maple syrup diet, was created in 1941 by Stanley Borroughs and made famous/popular by Peter Glickman. The master cleanse is know both as a crash diet and a detoxification program. (Although there is no scientific back up stating that this is in fact anything but an extreme diet.) This program has three phases, ease-in, the lemonade diet, and ease-out. Each stage needs to be fallow carefully. However, before we go on discussing the lemonade diet lets discuss the difference between a diet and a detoxification program.
- When you go on a diet you drastically change the amount of food you eat each day, essentially you are starving the body of food. You do this with the hope that you will burn more fat (calories) by consuming less calories. Whenever you go on a diet you drastically change your body, and if you manage to stay on a diet for a long period of time, your body eventually adjust to the change and the longer you stay on the diet the harder it becomes for you to lose weight.
- On the other hand, a detoxification program is meant to remove potentially danger substances from your body. When you detoxify you r body with the master cleanse mostly lose waste material located in your digestive system, along with some fat, muscle, and lots of fluid.
Now that you know the difference between a diet and a detoxification program, can you tell me which is not only good to lose weight, but actually get rid of it for good? Well, if you chose any of the options above you are mistaken because the answer is neither. You see, it is scientifically proven that diets do not work! Why? In average only fifty percent of individuals that start a diet usually end it within three weeks of the start date, three weeks before they go back to there old eating habits! And once the diet is over they not only gain back the weight they lose, they also gain a few pounds extra!
A detoxification works pretty much the same way. Why? Detoxifications are extremely strict and you must have a willpower made out of steel to successfully complete one! Some detoxification diets last two, maybe three days, but in order for the master cleanse to properly work you must maintain the program for at least ten days, without eating or drinking nothing except, tea, salt water and the lemon concoction. Unless you change your eating habits ones the detoxification program is over you will gain all the weight back, along with a few extra pounds.
Do you understand why neither dieting nor detoxification programs are efficient methods to permanently lose weight? If you are understand, congratulations! Although none of this methods work to permanently lose weight, the master cleanse may be a good idea to do if you are planning to change your lifestyle afterwards, otherwise don’t even go to all the effort.
Taking a closer look at the Master Cleanse
Step 1- Easing-in to the master cleanse
The ease-in step of the master cleanse is a pre-diet routine that prepares your body and mind to what it is to come. This is step can be done in three days. During these three days you are to drink a lot of liquids. (During this time it is a good idea to drink a lot of vegetable and fruit juices) You should also eat smaller portions of food, until eventually you start the master diet. You should also take this time to prepare all the ingredients for the master cleanse.
- Lemons/lemon juice
- Rich maple syrup
- Cayenne pepper
-Laxatives (this will be used to create bowel movements)
-Sea salt
-Natural herbal-tea with no caffeine
Although the ease-in process is not very important and it can be skipped, it is recommended that you do it.
Step 2- The lemonade diet
The fist thing you do when you wake up on that first day is either drink a cup of salt water or a laxatives, this will create bowel movements and flush out waist located in you intestines. Ones the bowel movements finish (it will usually take five to seven trips to bathroom, sometimes more) prepare you first batch of lemon juice concoction and drink it. (Mix the lemon juice with the maple syrup and cayenne pepper. It is best to drink your “lemonade” fresh each time.) It is recommended that you drink at least six to twelve glasses of “lemonade” each day, and every time you fell hungry drink a lot of water so your stomach can have the sensation of being full. (The amount of “lemonade” you drink varies depending on your needs, if you are felling very tired or weak you must drink a glass of “lemonade”)
Since you will not be eating any type of food during this process you will need to take the laxatives and/or sea salt water twice a day, ones in the morning and once in the night. (Make sure to adjust them to your schedule so you will have plenty of time to use the bathroom) The only other drink you can drink besides “lemonade” and water is decaf natural herbal tea, with no sugar and only once or twice a day.
The first two/three days are the hardest to accomplish and it is natural if you get headaches, or flu-like symptoms. However this symptoms should not last more than a week, if they do it is recommended to stop the master cleanse and consult your doctor. The master cleanse should go on for at least ten to fourteen days, however, you can go as long as your like as long as you do not overdue it.
Step 3- Easing out of the master cleanse.
This is the last step of the master cleanse. During this process you are not longer require to drink the “lemonade” but it is very important not to eat solid foods right after you finish the master cleanse. Once you finish the master cleanse you need to slowly reintroduce food into your system, start with some juices, soups, and broths. Eat small amounts at different intervals, and after three/four days you can start eating normal solid foods again.
As you can see the master cleanse is not so much a diet but a process to detoxify your body of toxins found mostly in your intestines caused by years of neglect. Alto of people who have done the master cleanse claim to fell more energized and healthy after the whole process is over. However, if you are not planning to change your lifestyle afterwards, then all the pounds you lost will return, and most likely then not they will be accompanied by a few extra friends.
As you can see from all the information sated in this article (and in many others), there is more than enough information supporting the fact that neither diets nor the master cleanse are efficient methods to permanently lose weight. Therefore, what can you do to efficiently and permanently lose weight? The answer is rather simple and is mentioned various times through out the article. Losing weight is not so much about dieting or detoxifying your body, losing weight is about adapting a better lifestyle, which includes taking care of your health in general, eat appropriates foods, sleeping at least 7½ hours each day, reduce your levels of stress, and maintained a constant exercise routing. (Research has shown that people who sleep seven to nine hours each night and have low levels of stress are able to lose weight easier, faster, and keep the weight of, than does that don’t)
Unfortunately there is no easy way to lose weight, and although the master cleanse is a good jump start to losing weight, the only way to permanently lose weight is to adopt a healthy life style.
So GOOD LUCK!
